The 1-year anniversary of the first lockdown is right around the corner and what a year it has been! With the third national lockdown feeling particularly difficult, it is easy to begin to lose hope. To help give you some inspiration on ways to make it slightly more bearable, we have asked the Rocket Charities Team how they have been spending the last few weeks in lockdown 3.0.
Veena:
“This lockdown I have made it my mission to master the art of the flapjack! After many attempts, I think I have finally perfected it. The rest of my time has been spent at my allotment, getting it prepped so I can grow my own vegetables this summer.”
Jenny:
“One of the main ways I have kept sane over the past few weeks is by cooking. With my new slow cooker, I have been trying new recipes and challenging myself with what I can make next!”
Claire:
“My go-to stress reliever during this lockdown has been Yoga with Adrianne on YouTube. Reading and taking long walks have been other great ways to spend my time and to get some fresh air.”
Jensen:
“I started learning Spanish during the first lockdown and have continued until now! To help keep active, I have been doing the couch to 5K and completed daily workouts.”
Five Ways to Wellbeing
The New Economics Foundation have developed and researched five ways to wellbeing and have updated this to the times of social distancing. If you are looking for ways to fill your time during this lockdown, check out some ideas below.
- Connect – Whether that being face-to-face with the people you live with or virtually with others online, connecting with others during these difficult times can help you feel supported and not alone.
- Be Active – Take part in online classes or go for a walk outside! Anything that gets you moving will fill your time and help to release those endorphins!
- Be Curious – Whether it be through mindfulness or just taking a moment to appreciate your surroundings and the present moment. Being aware of your environment can help you revaluate what matters to you.
- Keep Learning – Taking up hobbies or signing up to the course you have always wanted to take will give you a focus and will help to keep your mind active. And when better to start than when you have so much time on your hands!
- Give – Helping others in times of need helps you to develop the feeling of community whilst being a rewarding way to spend your time.
