Why Wedding Favours Work

23 May, 2016

The wedding favour – while it’s a very small part of the big day itself, you’d certainly miss it if it wasn’t there.

It’s ingrained in our wedding tradition. But in fact, it’s actually a curious practice that dates back to 16th Century France, when the aristocracy would present each wedding guest with a small, but lavish gift: a jewel-encrusted box filled with sugar-coated bonbons or almonds.

These weren’t just generic sweet treats – back then, sugar was thought to have special health-giving properties and, as such, the gift was the married couple’s way of showing their guests that they were cared for.

These days, sugar is… well, not thought of that highly when it comes to health and well-being. And let’s face it, giving sweets and sugared almonds is no longer the most cutting edge of ideas.

Which is why the modern day bride is on the lookout for a practical, cost-effective and – most importantly – unique wedding favour to offer to her guests as a memento of the happy day.

This is where charities come in.

More and more brides have taken to gifting charity badges as wedding favours. This trend is hugely popular with charities, brides and guests, and it’s easy to see why.

Firstly, the charity receives a simple and effective opportunity to raise both vital funds and awareness for their cause.

Meanwhile the wedding guests are happy to receive a beautiful badge as a token of the special day – wearing it happily, knowing that money was spent in their name on something worthwhile.

At Rocket Charities we are the UK’s leading suppliers of fundraising merchandise and we pride ourselves on our unmatched expertise and consultative approach. We have supplied some of the country’s biggest charities with wedding favours, including Marie Curie, RSBP, Alzheimer’s Society, Bloodwise, and Retired Greyhound Trust.

The possibilities for design are endless, whether it’s your logo, mascot or something brand new. The RSPB cleverly used the design of two swan heads in a heart shape, while – following a re-branding – Marie Curie asked us to develop a badge that would fit over the daffodil in their logo on the front of the card. Both were subtle but beautiful, and produced the results required.

After the design stage we will create a quality enamel badge plated with gold, silver or other metals, while we use glitter and stones to bring the designs to life and give them that extra sparkle. We will also attach the badges to branded tent-style cards so they can double up as place settings for the wedding guests.

We love working closely with charities on merchandise that works, and we are the supplier of choice for wedding favours for charities. We’re here to help and advise you every step of the way, as you take advantage of this growing fundraising opportunity.
